Did you know that in Salamanca, on the border with Extremadura, there is a ski slope? It is the station of La Covatilla, in the municipality of La Hoya, in the Sierra de Béjar.
La Covatilla station was opened to the public in 2001 with controversy over reports of Ecologistas en Acción. The station, in a wonderful landscape, integrated areas of the Sierra de Candelario (biosphere reserve and ZEPA).
La Covatilla ski station will open the 2014-2015 season on the bridge of the Constitution. The date is subject to the amount of snow. The 14th season of ski of Béjar, opens as well but with a change in direction: the city of Béjar takes command of the exgestora, Gecobesa.

What are the white baptisms? In La Covatilla, it's school programs from January to March to start skiing in the Sierra de Béjar.
More than 3,000 school children begin is every year in La Covatilla, according to the organization. The Diputación de Salamanca has a budget of €100,000 for white baptisms of this year.
Direct contact with nature is one of the reasons that hook to beginners in "white sport". This year attached to La Covatilla skiing will have another compelling reason: lower prices.
It is a good time to start skiing in the Sierra de Béjar. Those who live in Salamanca, Extremadura and Avila can ski at half price and without having to go to the Pyrenees. The season pass costs € 345 (€ 650 the previous year). Daily ski pass costs €29 in high season and low season, € 20€ 30 less than the previous year.
New this year is low season pass: a pass to ski during the week for €200. The consistory expected to thus encourage skiers, who tend to wait for the weekend.
Very close of La Covatilla lies the Natural Park of las Batuecas, a whole natural and artistic rather than recommended. You can find even fluffy beds of MOSS in the middle of the forest.
